We designed this house for a young professional family with a baby. Originally this house was designed and constructed in 1968 by the Architect Carlos Buschmann for himself, the national prize of Chilean architecture in 1979.
This new project involved modifications to the general functional structure of the house intending to adapt its operation to the current needs of the new family.
Also, we improved the materials throughout the whole house such as facades, roof, floors, and interior walls. Finally, We successfully maintained the aesthetics and the exterior architectural character of the house without significant modifications.
The biggest challenge was the demolition of a wall that separated two small areas on the main floor. Demolishing the wall we create an expansion of the space, becoming this area into a new spacious living and dining room. In addition, we put a new door to connect the living and dining room with the front garden yard, getting the possibility of revitalising an old and unused space. In this way, we formed an extensive and modern outdoor terrace with barbecue.
