Updated: Apr 17, 2020

What is Cerro Arriba?

Cerro Arriba was born to promote teamwork and collaboration in various areas such as education, culture, art, sports, tourism and environmental conservation or deep ecology.

Our classrooms are remote places, little known, wild areas, with high international tourism potential.

This project has the support by "Trekking" Foundation. It was first Chilean Foundation who develop the concept of outdoor activities under a point of view of a "social and environmental care", which means that in each of our activities the care of People and the environment it is crucial.

Our mission

It is to encourage, disseminate and develop outdoor activities and related sports, including those for people with exceptional ability or disability.

Our vision

It is to show us from Chile as a Latin American organisation for the world that promotes outdoor life in communion and respect for the environment, with social responsibility.

Our history.

Like much other organisation, it is born from the need to do something, to break the comfort parameters, to contribute with a legacy to future generations.

That was how the Trekking Foundation invited Marcelo Pérez Hott to give a conference at the Telephone Tower in Santiago, where he began to open the path of going beyond a usual route.

In parallel, Diego Rojas Donoso was working hard in the formation of the Andean Southern Mountain Club of Osorno, which today already has more than 80 members, contributing to the local mountaineering and hiking culture.

It was how both founders met on the route that would take them to the same place, the conformation of Cerro Arriba, after a series of coordination meetings and dialogues to find clear objectives that today structure the NGO, decide to specify a series of activities to the length of the time.

CERRO ARRIBA FESTIVAL 2016

On November 11, 12 and 13, 2016, Cerro Arriba would have its first chance to build an exciting atmophere.

The main challenge was to organise the first festival with impact 0 in the place in which it would happen.

Cerro Arriba Festival had a call for 60 people between Organising members, volunteers and participants.

Some of the activities of the festival were: Meditation with Tibetan bowls, outdoor mountain night cinema, photographic trekking, local mountaineers talks, among other entertaining activities all in camping mode in the middle of nature.

MOUNTANEERING COURSES 2015/16/17

One of the fundamental axes of Cerro Arriba is Education. Basic mountain courses organised within this axes. The idea is training the most significant number of people who are starting in the outdoor life.

To that, we certified a year of knowledge by instructors of the National Mountain School (ENAM)

Today Cerro Arriba has taught four courses with the support of the outstanding national mountaineer Daniel Rutland.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid [WAFA] 2017

We also have a massive concern for Cerro Arriba to prevent accidents in the mountains and always within the framework of education. It has also managed the vital training in first aid in remote areas where students have obtained vital knowledge in the prevention and assistance of accidents in first instances in hard to reach places.

Free Workshops and Scholarships

One of the main areas is the inclusion or Low cost, within this context is that Cerro Arriba aims in each activity to the most significant number of people, that is why within the events it organises, Generally, 40% of the participants get some benefit or gratuity, since the main idea of our activities is to distribute the knowledge and experiences behind the most significant number of people in a homogeneous way, regardless of gender, socioeconomic status, culture or any other reason.
